Nocturnal Wildlife Spotting Tours in Strahan, Tasmania

Join us for an unforgettable experience as we take you on a journey to explore the fascinating world of nocturnal wildlife in Strahan, Tasmania. You will be expertly led through the wilderness, providing you with insights into the unique behaviours and habitats of the creatures of the night.

Discover Tasmania's wildlife at Night

Did you know that Tasmania is home to over 10,000 species of fauna? Yep, that's a lot!

Of course, this includes invertebrate animals like insects, spiders, snails and crustaceans... so talking about animals with backbones, there is an estimated 900 to 1000 species.

This includes 11 frogs, 22 reptiles, 44 terrestrial mammals, 14 marine mammals, 170 birds,  56 seabirds, ~486 marine fishes, 25 freshwater fishes and an extra 177 vertebrate species who don't live here permanently, but have been recorded in the state.

Of those species, 32 are endemic to Tasmania, and are found no where else in the world.

You will be able to spot some of these creatures through the day time, like the bees, birds, and wombats... but a lot of them are actually nocturnal!

That's where we come in. â€‹

Our Night Walk Adventure offers you the chance to learn about these animals and how to identify them on your own while you travel through Tasmania. We want to help you witness the magic of nocturnal wildlife in it's natural habitat and develop a deep appreciation for the beauty of the night.

Why Whitmore's WILD?

The 'Wild' in the name doesn't just refer to the rugged country of Tasmania, it stands for something - Wildlife, Interpretation, Learning and Discovery. These are the cornerstones of my tour that I hope people leave with.

Australian wildlife is unique and incredible and, believe it or not, it is right there outside everyone's door whether you live in the city or out in the bush. Once you learn about it - the signs it is there and what to look for - you'll be amazed at what you can discover and admire, whilst also allowing it to feel safe and flourish.

When I arrived to Strahan in 2023, I couldn't believe how lucky I was to have this vast habitat on my doorstep - Josh and I started camping out for nocturnal wildlife spotting pretty much the week we arrived (not the easiest whilst working a full time job, but worth it)! It's incredible what is here out West, and not everyone is aware what is out there. I want to help to bring that awareness to visitors and locals, enriching our lives and in turn the lives of the animals through understanding, appreciation and ultimately, protection.

Guest Reviews

Wow the tour is awesome, saw wombats, bandicoots, native frog, and learnt so much about Tasmanian wildlife. Kaylee is very knowledgeable and has a passion that is contagious. The next night we where putting our new skills to use finding tracks, identifying native animals through their scats, and listening out for and finding pademelons. An absolute must on your list for your Strahan visit
